In southern Brazil, mate or "Chimarrao" is a deeply rooted tradition. In Brazil said the chimarrao is the "drink of the community," is a symbol of southern hospitality to those who come as guests to a home in this region, because invariably they are welcomed with a Cuia or mate gourd .
The Cuia is a Yerba cup of pumpkin which is used in Brazil.
The pertinent drinking pipe is the Bomba, it is characterized by a large round filter..
The Yerba is called „Chimarrão“ and is usually a fine powder of crushed Yerba leaves.
While using the mate-cup a discolouration of the pumpkin takes place. This is a natural process which occurs through the absorption of the tea.
Before the first use of the cup it should be "cured" in order to ensure a longer life.
